Currently working on a prop

Ladies and gentlemen,
I am proud to tell you that I finally have a short time of "almost holidays" in which I'm working on something.
This something is the sword "Caledscratch" from the awesome webcomic Homestuck.

Regarding other things, I guess I will delete my "cosplay projects" list.
I really have a lot to do with university and my two jobs, so I don't know if I get any projects finished or when.

Which is also one of the reasons for me not taking part in cosplay groups anymore. I don't want to dissappoint people or bring even more stress into my life by trying to make cosplays I don't have the time for.

Sometimes I'm asking myself whether I will keep this hobby up.
It's not really fun without a group but I'm so sick of people being completely anal about those groups and giving you shit for having to cancel last minute because of exams. Or replacing you and not speaking one more word with you afterwards.
And since I'm riding solo anyways, whats the deal with it?
Also, I'm falling down those many comments, I don't even have the time to interact with people anymore and its making me sad.
I like working on things and sewing and stuff but at the moment I'm frustrated with pretty much everything else about the hobby.

hey abss a sons client want us to make a gundam zero armor for him,

they think because im asian i know a lot about this stuff

any idea what material should i use? i was planning to make most of it i fiberglass, it would look cool and durable but its going to be very very heavy, i never tried making things like this before oh please advice this humble craftsman ohhhh goddess of cosplay

To be true that's a project I myself would never do since damn, that's a whole lotta armour to do and very complicated!
For smaller parts of armory, I usually use sheets of styrene or ABS-Plastic which I glue onto craftfoam- easy to do and not very expensive!
Yet I am not sure whether you could make a whole Gundam out of it.
Fiberglass is a good idea, yet it would take ages of filling and sanding to get smooth results.
I have never done an armour-project this huge and complicated so I might not be the right person to address your questions to

the kid wants to win a prize for a costume that he wants us to make, i told my boss to say no we dont have time and we already have that apache helicopter thingy to think about but he already said yes.

isnt that cheating? i dont know much about cosplay but the whole idea is to make your own costume from scratch right? its the whole point pfttt rich people.

Hummmmmm..... I'm not sure, there are different rules for every contest.
In the German cosplay championships, the focus lies on the making of the costumes and you will not get many points if you present a costume on stage that is not selfmade. But then there are different cosplay contests that focus on the show, where its not too relevant whether you made the cosplay yourself.
In Japan, most cosplays are not selfmade for example!

For me, it would take away a lot of fun if somebody else made the costumes. And I wouldn't be as proud of them.

But the whole thing that you have to make a costume for a boss' kid juft doesnt feel right to me.
